Hot Mess Hair

Vera Wang
Hot Mess Hair is the style you'll want to wear this season. It's the new Sea Breezy Texture (get the May issue of ELLE to find out more) combined with a lacksey-daisy approach to the up-do. The key to getting that airy texture right is the products in your kit.

Pick A Parting
Partings were everywhere on the spring summer 2013 catwalks and in all shapes and sizes. We saw playful zig-zags at BCBGMAXAZRIA, deep-set sides both wispy (at Chloe) and sleek (at Thierry Mugler), dual-partings at Etro and Gianfranco Ferré where quiffs were flattened down creating structured panel-back hair and even the ‘no-parting-parting’ at Christopher Kane.

Straight Story
Oh beauty, you fickle mistress! Last season super sleek hair was du jour, this season there is a subtle blink-and-you'll-miss-it shift in the type of straight hair you should be wearing this summer.
Still sleek and super shiny, but there is a subtlety to the look it's softer, prettier with a hint of movement. It's cool girl hair (think Kate Bosworth, Gwyneth Paltrow and you'll get the idea), not so try hard.
How do you get this straight look right? 'The best way to get a modern take on the glossy straight look is to avoid using the heated styler right up at the root. Start two inches from the root. It's this natural body that keeps it modern and retains the movement. As a finishing touch, a very gentle, subtle bend with the styler on the last inch end of each section will match the movement left in at the crown' says hair stylist Errol Douglas.
